Using CrystalDiskMark, the sequential read and write performance of the Seagate FreeAgent falls in between the performance of the other 3.5" external drives, above the Iomega drive and below the Seagate drive. This also holds true for random read performance, but with random write performance the FreeAgent GoFlex falls a little short. This is one of the inherent downsides of 2.5" drives versus 3.5" drives.

In the PCMark 7 suite of tests, it shows that for tasks where there are a higher proportion of read operations, the FreeAgent GoFlex is able to keep up and stay close to or higher than the Iomega 3.5" drive's performance. When there are more write operations, the FreeAgent GoFlex lags behind.
